In
June 1964 was the realization of the dream school, Immaculate
Conception Parish School, of its founder, Reverend Fr. Francis
Kutscher, a missionary holy man from Germany, under the congregation
of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), through the inspiration
and recommendation of Msgr. Hernando Antiporda, Auxiliary
Bishop of Manila, during his parish pastoral visit in Cubao,
Quezon City.
Reverend Fr. Francis Kutscher envisioned, that more children
of Quezon City, particularly those below the poverty line,
would enjoy Catholic Christian Elementary Education, a fundamental
right of a citizen and a child of God.
In
August of the same year, a Kindergarten School composed of
83 children, came into existence at the former site of the
Saffy Handicraft Workshop, now the Parish Center, with one
teacher, the late Ms. Martina Reyes. Enrolment increased to
120 Kindergarten and 90 Grade One pupils and an additional
teacher was hired.
In
February, 1966, a property of 1,000 square meter lot was bought.
The first two floors of the main building were constructed
in summer. In 1967, the third floor was added and 1968 the
fourth floor. The year 1969 gave rise to the construction
of the wooden three-classroom Kindergarten building.
With
an enormous increase in enrolment during the school year 1970,
an annex to the original four storey building was added to
accommodate new classrooms as well as the office staff. The
rise of ICPS and the completion of its Elementary Course was
through the help and approval of the late Rufino Cardinal
Santos, Archbishop of Manila. The founder’s aim is for
the harmonious development of the student’s Spiritual,
Intellectual and Physical Faculties, animated by a sincere
love of God, of country and neighbor.
Participating in the missionary spirituality and charism of
their founder, Blessed Arnold Janssen, the members of the
Society of the Divine Word (S.V.D.) and the Congregation of
the Servants of the Holy Spirit (S.Sp.S.) committed themselves
to help the youth grow in maturity and enhance their apostolic
effectiveness. This they accomplished through a relevant and
quality education rooted in Christian values and geared to
assist in the upliftment of those below the poverty line in
the parish. Therefore the main thrust has been to train Christian
Catholic leaders for service in the building of a truly ecclesial
community and society to carry on Christ’s work in their
own sphere of activity.
To continue the mission of evangelization, the founder and
his confreres, the SVD priests and the S.Sp.S sisters, the
parents and the parishioners at the time thought of a need
for the establishment of a High School Department. Through
prayers, planning efforts and funds from generous benefactors
here and abroad, the ICPS High School, the most cherished
dream of the founder came true in 1981.
The
management style of the SVD priests had reached the peak of
its accomplishment. Thus, they left the school for another
place of mission. It was in May, 1990, the ICPS was turned
over to the Diocesan priests under the jurisdiction of his
Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin, Archbishop of Manila.
The efforts expended have borne fruits as shown by the impressive
array of successful graduates who have enriched others in
their field of specialization. Due to this, the on-going mission
of the Immaculate Conception Parish School has been ensued.
Another
great achievement of the school to mark was the opening of
a Nursery School in 1994 in answer to the clamor of parents
wanting their darling tots to acquire their early education
at ICPS. It first started with Nursery kids. Year after year
it had bloomed to a bigger number of enrollees.
The phenomenal growth of the school population from 83 pupils
in 1964 to 3,388 in 2001 attests to the quality of education
offered by the efficiency of the school educational system.

The
above leaders made explicit the Marian Dimensions of the mission
and goals of the school. Aware of their social responsibilities,
teachers and students had opened their venues reaching out
for the underprivileged, offering financial assistance for
them up to the present time. To continue the missionary work,
the school established a Center for Integral Evangelization
(CIE) in 1997 on which Religion is the core of its curriculum.
In 2001, it was reestablished under the tutelage of Fr. Raul
B. Barcela. The emphasis is Christ Centered school activities
where Religion is integrated in all subject areas.
At present ICPS is a member of the Manila Archdiocesan and
Parochial Schools Association (MAPSA). It has become a progressive
school and one of the lead schools in the Archdiocese of Manila
because it invests its resources for the acquisition of highly
technological classroom equipments and teaching aids, including
its modern Audio Visual Center and Computer Laboratory. Its
graduates can compete globally with any school because of
its Academic Excellence and wholistic spiritual formation.
To include are the mentors of both departments, Grade School
and High School, whose teaching competencies and methodologies
are in par excellence, tested in the hands of time through
exposure to extensive seminar workshops and trainings and
pursuance of Masters and Doctoral studies; working hand in
hand with highly effective school personnel. All of these
effectively function with the managerial skills and expertise
and dynamic leadership of Administrators, leading to making
the school system acquire high excellence in the Academics
and co-curricular activities, relevant and globally competitive
Catholic school.
Last
August 28, 2003 His Excellency. Most Reverend Honesto F. Ongtioco,
D.D. was installed as the first bishop of the diocese of Cubao.
It was also the date of the proclamation of the school as
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHEDRAL SCHOOL. ICCS will be the prime
mover of educational evangelization of the diocese.
Consistent active support of the members of the community,
ICCS will continue to lead and build a true ecclesial community
of which is MAKADIYOS, MAKATAO, MAKABAYAN and MAKAKALIKASAN.
